Amino Acids |
 |
Amino acids function as the building blocks of proteins. Chemically, amino acids are organic compounds containing an amino (NH2) group and a carboxyl (COOH) group. Amino acids are classified as essential, nonessential and conditionally essential Nitrogen-containing compounds that are the building blocks of proteins. There are 22 different amino acids from which every protein in the body is made up of. There are nine so-called essential amino acids that are not manufactured by the body and must come from the diet. They all have the same carbon backbone structure but differ from one another according to the individual side chain.
